Inspired by the lovely Slaney river that flows through Co Carlow, Co Wicklow
and Co Wexford in SE Ireland
The River
1
I remember one evening in
late September
On a bridge wall I wearily
sat down,
to rest awhile I hoped to find
some salvation
As I journeyed between Arklow and
Carlow Town.
2
As I rested and reflected on
my surroundings,
A wondrous beauty to me
was revealed
A tranquil place of natural brilliance,
A place where one could be reborn
and fulfilled.
3
Enchanted by the moment, captivated
by the scene,
As the sunlight glistened of the
rivers waters
I was lost within a dream,
A dream of what the world was like
at the time of Eve.
4
I remained on that bridge, but
a fleeting moment,
but in that short span of time,
I realised that the surrounding farmland
was not the nature that God had designed.
The river was but an oasis in a
manufactured world of man's enterprise.
5
I continued on my weary journey,
with a vision of banks of green,
wild flowers engulfed within a scented breeze.
A mortal witness to what God had envisaged,
his garden to be.......
